People use the saying ‘until the wheels fall off’ pretty casually. Which is why when I awaiting the bridal party at the reception venue for this Greenwich, Connecticut wedding, and the venue manager said they were running late because the wheels fell off, I did not immediately interpret that as being literal.
Except it was literal! You see, their limousine had lost a wheel on the way from the ceremony to the reception. Luckily, no one was injured. That was the most important concern.
But, our window of time to get portraits done before the guests arrived was rapidly closing. There’s one thing about wedding days I’ve learned over the past 20 years, it’s very difficult to make up lost time.
But I work very hard to do just that whenever I find myself at an event that is behind schedule. I am highly efficient when it comes to getting through portraits and I often end up with a buffer of time after the portraits are done.
Don’t think that I save time by cutting corners or not giving much attention to the portraits. Absolutely not! I just make the process run very, very smoothly. It’s a matter of knowing how to arrange the order of the portrait groups so we seamlessly move from one to another.
When it is time to photograph just the wedding couple, I have already visualized the shots I want to get before the wedding day so we can quickly get those done and move on to any NEW ideas that come up spontaneously. In the end, my experience and skill saves you time, and, if you don’t like having your picture taken, the pain of having to sit through endless photos.
I was able to get Stephanie and Matt through their portraits quickly and smoothly, in addition to capturing GORGEOUS photos of them. We had them all finished up just in time for the rest of the wedding party to arrive for the rest of the photos.
