I had just arrived to photograph this Fall wedding at Liberty Warehouse when the bride approached me…
“So……did you see the last episode of Grey’s??”
The bride, Jen, and I share a mutual love of Grey’s Anatomy. We both laughed and talked a bit about the show before getting back into the swing of the wedding day.
It’s great to have that sort of a touchstone when dealing with a couple, because I’m able to speak in a language that they understand.
When we planned Jen and Josh’s engagement shoot at the school they both teach at, I said it sounded like something out of a John Hughes movie. They totally understood what I was going for, and that sort of shared connection helps me make a couple feel extra comfortable when I am photographing them.
There’s a type of shorthand we all understand. Easy references that let YOU know that I get you, help you feel at ease, or just laugh out loud and enjoy the moment.
And whether we have interests in common or not, I get to know you so that I understand you better and how I can make you feel relaxed and comfortable with me. You want a wedding photographer who bothers to get to know you, right?
Yea? Well, get in touch with me because that’s one of the tricks to getting great wedding photos.
Just check out the photos from this stunning Fall wedding at Liberty Warehouse and tell me what you think! I personally LOVE these ‘fortune teller’ programs…
