“Our wedding photos remind me of who we were and how far we have come.”
It’s been a long time since Marquina and Dan’s wedding. Since then, we’ve become friends and frequent collaborators.
And this photo always makes me laugh!
I wanted to hear what Marquina thought of this wedding photo…
What do you think about when you look at this photo?
“When I look at this photo I see a moment that perfectly captures my relationship with Dan. I am reminded that he has always been the yin to my yang and the centering force that gives me the confidence to follow my dreams.
When I set my mind on something, I throw my whole self into what I’m doing…and, in this photo, it is clear I’m (literally) ready to jump into my exciting new life with my brand new husband. Yippee!
When we were dating, we had an odd tradition of me meeting him after work on 17th street and running full-speed for half a block to body-slam into him as a way of greeting. In this photo, he clearly knew what was coming but the rest of the wedding party had no idea that this is just a regular occurrence in our everyday lives.
It takes a lot of energy to keep up with me but it takes even more internal strength to be my partner. Dan has the type of calm confidence that balances my exuberance.
Since changing jobs and having a son, we don’t meet on the street and body-slam our greetings anymore…but seeing this photo now makes me think we should bring that tradition back. Perhaps just a little less intense. ;-)”
And, what do your wedding photos mean to you now that you’re a few years removed from your wedding day?
“Our wedding photos remind me of who we were and how far we have come.
There have been setbacks; miscarriages, breast cancer, and work conflicts but we’ve arrived on the other side stronger.
We have a photo from our engagement session on the bookcase in our living room. I love to see it every day to remind me of who we are as individuals and how we are stronger as a couple.
Dan and I are polar opposites in many ways, but we have a strong love and deep respect for each other.”
