“We want to take photos at the restaurant where we had our first date!”
I always tell couples that one of the easiest ways to figure out where to take their engagement pictures is by choosing locations that have special meaning to them. When Rebecca and Steve told me their plans for locations around their home neighborhood of Astoria, I was all in!
Not only did they choose to take pictures at the location of their first date, a cozy little restaurant/bar called Snowdonia. After that, we took pictures outside Kaufman-Astoria Studios, where a lot of NYC TV and film production is done at Kaufman-Astoria Studios – including Sesame Street. So, if anyone ever asks if you can tell them how to get to Sesame Street, just tell them it’s in Astoria, Queens, New York City!
Then we went over to The Museum of the Moving Image (which has a fantastic permanent exhibit on Jim Henson and The Muppets), and finally we hit up Astoria Park.
Why such a focus on movies? Well, Steve works in film and television editing (you’ve probably seen some of his work), and they both just generally love movies. They decided to do a few ‘movie poster poses’ – romantic comedy, odd couple, spy thriller, buddy cop – and they ended up making miniature posters for their table decorations at the wedding!
