If you’ve never witnessed a traditional Asian wedding tea ceremony, it really is a thing of beauty. The ceremony is meant to honor family members – the couple gets to thank their family and their family gets to offer their blessings in return. It can be emotional, solemn, or funny!
When I showed up at Rita and Seth’s wedding at the Hotel Plaza Athenee, I was immediately drawn to the tea set. They’re ornate and beautiful and it’s one of those ‘traditions’ that I find quite lovely and heart warming.
The next thing I noticed was the guest book Rita designed herself with various “Manhattan skylines” – it folded out! And the skyline motif carried over to their wedding cake!
But I think the thing that struck me most was the blending of the families and the overwhelming joy. A lot of Rita’s family had come from overseas for the event, and, despite the language barrier, everyone had a fantastic time!
