I have made my thoughts on same-sex marriage very clear in the past. If you’d like to read further on that topic, feel free to read more here. Right now, I am basking in the joy I feel for so many of my friends and clients who now have the right to get married thanks to today’s historic Supreme Court decision.

Some of the first ‘weddings’ I photographed when I started over 15 years ago were actually ‘commitment ceremonies’, since same-sex marriage was not legal. I recall hearing officiants say, “One day, hopefully, we can all get together and make this an official ceremony.”

For many, that day has finally arrived. While same-sex marriage has been legal for a while now in New York, couples would still approach me with hesitance to ask if I was willing to photograph their wedding. It made me quite sad, because I am guessing someone had already told them ‘no’. I am ecstatic to see that it is now the ‘law of the land.’ Congratulations to all those who fought hard for their right to marry. Wherever you are in the country, if you need someone to photograph your wedding, you don’t have to ask whether I am willing – I will be happy and proud to photograph your wedding!
