Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions - Wedding Photography - Copyright Casey Fatchett 2008

Why should I hire you to be my photographer?

Here are ten reasons to choose me to cover your special day:

1. These photos are important to you and you want a photographer who respects that

2. You know you are going to spend a lot of time with your photogapher, and you want someone you can be comfortable with

3. You want your photographer to be noticed as little as possible during your wedding

4. When you look at my wedding galleries, the photos speak to your own personal style

5. I take great pride in my work and I will do everything I can to make sure you are happy with your photos

6. You hate having your photo taken and you want the process to be as painless as possible

7. You want to feel relaxed and natural during your wedding

8. I won't tell you how to pose, or try to "recreate" a moment

9. I can guarantee I will make you laugh at least once during the wedding day

10. My dog says I am awesome. I know he is bias, and lest you think I am crazy - I also know that he can not really talk...but I am very good with animals...and children!

How much will it cost?

I prefer to work individually with my clients to create a package that works for them. Your particular needs may not neatly fit into a pre-arranged "package". My package for $2495 includes the following:

  • A complimentary engagement portrait session in New York City
  • 8 hours of photographic coverage on the day of the wedding
  • A password protected online gallery of al your photos (for sharing with your family and friends, as well as ordering prints)
  • A full set of unmarked 4x6 proof prints including both color and black & white photos
  • High-resolution copies of all of your images on DVD

Custom designed wedding albums are available startingat $650. Additional features can be added at your convenience. Special consideration is given to "out-of-season" and weekday events.

What is your photographic style?

Documentary. Photojournalism. Candid. Reportage. There are many terms which may or may not mean anything to you. What matters is that when you see my photos, you feel that they fit your own personal style.

Do you provide wedding albums? What kind?

Custom designed wedding albums are available to all of my clients. Either cutting edge coffee table books with the photos printed directly on the pages or traditional matted albums.

For coffee table style wedding books I use Graphistudio and Asukabook albums as well as flush-mount albums from Classic Albums. I do not limit the number of images included in digital albums, you shouldn't have to choose between the photos you love. Price is determined by the size of the album and number of pages.

If you prefer a more traditional style album, I also provide matted albums - similar to the kind your parents and grandparents had where the photos were placed behind a matte and attached to the page. For traditional albums, price is determined by the size of the album and the number of photos you choose to put in.

Do you shoot digitally? Do you bring back-up equipment?

Yes, I am 100% digital. I use professional quality Canon digital SLR cameras and I bring lots of equipment - extra cameras, extra lenses, etc - just in case...

I like black and white photos - do you shoot black and whites?

Since I shoot digitally, I capture all of your wedding photos in color. Each photo can then be toned for black & white or sepia printing. You can determine what percentage of your printed 4x6 proofs you would like in black & white.

Who will my photographer be?

I will always be your photographer. Fatchett Photography is not a photography mill. I will not show you my work, get you to book your wedding, and then pass you off to another photographer.

What happens if you get sick and are unable to make it to my wedding?

In the highly unlikely event that something does happen, I coordinate with a group of other professional wedding photographers who shoot in a style that is similar to my own to guarantee that you will have a photographer at your event.

Do you travel?

Yes, though I primarily work in the New York tri-state area I am willing to travel anywhere that people treat me kindly (both domestic and internationally).

Do you take traditional wedding photos?

If by "traditional" you mean heavily posed portraits or "recreated" moments, then the answer is "no."

I do set aside time for family and group portraits. I understand how important family portraits are to my clients. They provide a record of your family and guests. However, I use my own particular style of portraiture, preferring to guide you through the pictures as opposed to directing you where to stand and how to look.

Do I get to keep my negatives?

I provide a copy of your digital negatives on CD or DVD with my standard package. You receive the images when you want them. No need to wait six months or a year to receive your pictures.

Can I make my own prints?

The choice is up to you. They are your pictures and you did pay for them. However, there is a great difference between the hand-detailed final prints I provide and those you can get from your local printer - on both a technical and artistic level. The digital negatives I provide you receive basic touch-ups to correct lighting and color when necessary but do not receive the attention that goes into a hand-detailed print.

I love your pictures, but you are not in my budget - what can I do?

Well, you can add me to your registry! Then your guests and family members can contribute towards the cost of the wedding photos! It is a very simple process and I am more than happy to oblige. I also offer a variety of payment plans to help spread out the cost of your photography package. Please contact me for details.

How do I book you for my wedding?

I require a signed contract and at least 1/3 deposit/retainer to reserve the date of your wedding.

What if I have to reschedule or cancel?

If you have to reschedule your wedding, I will do the best I can to work with you on your new date if it is still available and transfer your deposit/retainer to the new date. In the unfortunate event that you have to cancel your wedding, no portion of your deposit is non-refundable unless cancelled more than 120 days prior to your event. Please view the studio policies page for more details.

Do you cover events other than weddings?

Yes, besides weddings I also cover other events including Bar / Bat Mitzvahs, balls, galas, corporate functions and much more. Please contact me regarding your particular event and we will come up with a coverage package that fits your needs.

P.S. I even do proposals so start planning early guys!
