News and Reviews: The Buzz!

I’ve been extremely lucky lately to be getting a lot of attention from wedding blogs. Two features on Merci New York, as well as the Wedding Wire Blog, Bridal Bar Blog, and many others. And at least 6 more features coming up in the near future!

It can be hard to keep up so I’ve created a list of all the news/blog mentions on my website – click here to take a look at THE BUZZ!

On a similar note, I have been receiving a lot of rave reviews from clients. So that people can take a look at two of the more high profile sites where I get reviews, I have added links on my ‘client feedback‘ page. Feel free to take a look, read the reviews, and leave one yourself if you are a former client! I will be back soon with more wedding photos!

Nikki + Ben: Kilts, Rain, and Love – New Jersey Wedding

With the weather we are having today and the wedding I am shooting tomorrow, I was reminded of Nikki and Ben’s rainy day wedding in New Jersey.

Nikki and Ben chose a great date to get married – my birthday! This was the first kilt wedding of the year, but there was so much more to it. The details – OH, the details! For one, check out those flowers…

Liza + Matt: Brooklyn Bridge Engagement Session

I just shot Liza and Matt’s wedding last weekend down in Philadelphia so I thought it was about time I posted their engagement photos. Matt proposed to Liza on the pier under the Brooklyn Bridge right next to the brand-spanking-new Brooklyn Bridge Park. So, that’s where we went for their photos…

This is outside the “Tobacco Factory” in DUMBO, Brooklyn. When I first moved to New York City, this was an open ‘park’ – now it’s an event space. Oh, how the times change.

Then we went over to Fulton Landing on the other side of the Brooklyn Bridge.

Yuka + Dan: City Hall Wedding

Who says you can’t have fabulous photos at a City Hall wedding? While I was at ‘City Hall’ for this wedding, I noticed a lot of people (including same sex couples who were taking advantage of the new New York State marriage laws) did not have a professional photographer. It makes me sad, and not from a business point of view but rather – THIS IS YOUR WEDDING! To that end, I am offering $100 off on City Hall wedding ceremony coverage until the end of November. Tell your friends – at least those getting married at City Hall in Manhattan. But now, back to Dan and Yuka!

I photographed Dan’s sister Vienna’s wedding a couple years ago and I was happy to help out when I got the call about this intimate gathering of family and friends down at City Hall.

Summer + James: Rainy Day Engagement Photos

Well, Hurricane Irene has come and gone and New York City appears to have dodged a bullet. There was significant flooding and wind damage in some areas but not nearly as bad as it could have been. Kudos to the NYC officials for taking lots of precautions.

And now an engagement session that looks like it was done during the hurricane but let me assure you it WAS NOT! It was taken the week before, during one of the many deluges we had throughout August.

I have known Summer and James for many years so I was very honored when they told me they would like to have me as their photographer for their wedding. When it came to shoot the engagement photos, it was pouring outside and we all said “F&*k it! Let’s go for it!” So they grabbed their umbrellas and I put on my rain gear and we headed out to Athena Park in Astoria…

Yes, even though there is a statue of Socrates – this is not Socrates Park. That’s another park in Astoria.

An interesting side note: this sculpture of Socrates was actually created by one of my college professors in Michigan, Anthony Frudakis. His wife was also my pre-school teacher. Small world. Don’t believe me? Here’s a photo from my younger days next to the smaller version of the great thinker. “Acting! GENIUS!”

Summer was a little upset when James tried to give Socrates her ring…

Eventually they decided to ditch the umbrellas all together, since they weren’t helping much and we went over to the playground behind the park.

They decided to hide under the slide for a moment’s respite but James was a little too tall…

What is up with this playground? Weird conglomerations of bars, chains in strange places, netting, and rock climbing footholds on the sides of everything. It looks more like a Parkour course.

Melanie + Mike: St. Patrick’s Wedding

Melanie and Mike’s wedding at St. Patrick’s Cathedral had some pretty awesome things going for it. One, it was in St. Pat’s – which is gorgeous! Secondly, Mike’s family from England was there and I have soft spot for the hats the English ladies love to wear. Finally, Melanie is an opera singer and she SANG AT HER OWN WEDDING! Normally, I would advise against that sort of thing – it’s your wedding, you have a lot of other things on your mind, yadda, yadda, yadda…but she BLEW THE DOORS OFF THE PLACE! (sorry for all the caps, but it was rather mindblowing)

And that wedding dress, it was the same dress Melanie’s mom wore at her wedding – AWESOME!

The Knot Magazine and Tyler Gets a Haircut

So I was in Barnes and Noble today looking at the Fall/Winter edition of The Knot Magazine (New York Edition) and guess who has a big picture in the “Venues with a View” article? Yours truly!

The Knot Magazine - Venues With a View

Well, it was not really a surprise.  I have known for a couple of months but I had to wait until the magazine actually came out. It is kind of a funny story. The photo editor actually emailed me while I was on my honeymoon in Scotland. Luckily, they did not need the high resolution image until I was back in the United States!

The photo is from Marquina and Dan’s wedding at Liberty Warehouse in Brooklyn.

In other news, my little buddy has had a bit of a rough time of late. Tyler had an abcess under his eye caused by a bacterial infection in one of his teeth. So he had to be sedated and have FOUR teeth pulled! Not pleasant and I’m sure not the way he wanted to spend his seventh birthday. Afterwards, he got a much needed haircut and he has been acting more like a puppy than a cranky old man. When his hair is so short it is hard for me to believe he is seven. Love you, little guy.

Tyler

Liberty Warehouse: Brooklyn Wedding Venue » The Wedding Guide - [...] This is a great space for an event (though a little tricky to get to) and the views are AMAZING.  One of my photos was even used in The Knot Magazine’s article on locations in New York City with great views – check it out here! I have a tiny butt…

So it is blazing hot all over the country and I figured everybody could use a good laugh. Why not at my expense?

Photographer sits in tiny chair.

This was at a recent wedding, about 15 minutes before the ceremony. The bridal party asked if I wanted to sit down for a minute. The only chair available was the child’s chair. Sure! I can fit. Ever since I rode in a child’s car seat from a wedding a couple of years ago (it couldn’t be removed from the car – it was a rental – shhh! Don’t tell anyone!), my wife and friends haven’t let me forget that I have the hips of an 8 year old girl apparently. For scale purposes, here’s a photo of the flower girl sitting in the same chair…

DeAndrea + Bryan: Beckwith Pointe

Now that I have a bit of a break during this busy wedding season, I am finally able to blog some of this year’s weddings!

So, I give you – DeAndrea and Bryan!

The ceremony, which was both emotional and funny took place in Mount Vernon.

After the ceremony, we journeyed over to the beautiful Beckwith Pointe for the reception. I had never photographed a wedding there before and I was quite taken with the view!

Once inside, we were entertained by the talented Victor Lesser and Manhattan City Music.
